It's Noon on Sunday and I'm so thankful to be spending it here at home with my feathered Angels. I had various invites out for Brunch with friends but I rather just stay in. The past two weekends I've been on various travels and now I just want to enjoy my quiet space. Correction: It's never quiet in this house as long as the Umbrella Cockatoos are awake.
Ragnar. 12 friends, 2 vans, 2 days, 1 night, 200 miles = Unforgettable Stories! 2013 Ragnar Southern California was an amazing experience. This experience was all because of an amazing friend and fellow runner I immediately connected with while waiting for the start of a Half Marathon race. The moment we exchanged Salutations, I knew we would become good friends. Tristen sent messages asking if I would be interested in being a part of her Ragnar team since a member dropped out. It's never been a race that cared to be a part of or one for my Bucket List. I did volunteer for a team at the 2013 Ragnar Del Sol. Watching from behind the scenes, it didn't do a thing for me. So when Tristen asked, I wasn't quite sure how to respond. Long story short, I am so happy that I did! I loved everything about my Ragnar experience except for the running.
Actually the running wasn't too bad. I did set a PR for fastest Mile and 5K on my first Leg. After that, my Nike+ Sport Watch GPS died. It completely died and I had to run on feel for my second and third legs. I never accepted an invite with my friends here in Phoenix because they're all so fast and feared that I would be the slow one of the bunch and the added pressure was something I didn't want to deal with and hear about for years to come. So I accepted Tristen's invite and only shared with a handful of local friends.
From the moment that Tristen picked me up at the airport, I knew I made the right decision. For me this wasn't about the running it was about being happy with myself and running ability and contribute to a team. Prior to the race, I didn't contribute much to postings and emails because I just didn't get into the team spirit. Once teammates from Van #1 were on our way to the Start, I felt good about things. At the first major exchange when the whole team came together, I felt a part of something special. The Shenanigans In The Vansagain were all incredible members.
Would I consider doing Ragnar again? It all depends on exactly who is on the team. Would I want to do another Ragnar as a member of The Shenanigans In The Vansagain? Most definitely! I still think about all the fun times we shared last weekend. Thank you so much, Milady Tristen for keeping me in mind and allowing for such memories to be a part of me always!
Life is all about adventures. At 48, I'm ready to take on and enjoy as many adventures as possible!
